Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjárto visited last week to strengthen diplomatic and cooperation ties between both countries. Israel has special considerations with the DR because of what the DR did in the 1940’s.

Hungarians were also benefitted (though most were deported bsck to Hungary since a rash of robberies and break ins shook Ciudad Trujillo.) Once an investigation evidenced that the Hungarians were behind this rash, Trujillo ordered what now is impossible: deport most Hungarians back to Hungary.

Two results came from that:

1. The robbery spree in Ciudad Trujillo came to a screeching halt. A miracle!

2. To this day you still hear some Dominican mothers tell their misbehaving sons/daughters to not be such a Hungarian. They don’t really say it thinking of Hungary or the Hungarians, but sayings that pop out of nowhere.

Fun Fact

The only Dominican invented gun was invented by a Hungarian immigrant. I don’t remember his full name, but the last name was Kovacs. The gun was manufactured in San Cristóbal.

Nothing to be proud of. They will likely exchange ideas about more corruption and how to make goulash of illegal immigrants.
