Compañía de Electricidad San Pedro de Macorís (Energas) has received a 30-year concession for a US$222 mn natural gas-fired power project. The power plant would be the 130 MW Energas IV plant and would be built in Guayaanes, San Pedro de Macoris.
The combined cycle plant would be built at the Energas existing facility which is made up of three 100MW combined cycle units.
BNAmericas reports that by April 2025, natural gas-fired plants are expected to account for 39.25% of power generation in the Dominican Republic. The balance of production would come from coal 32.81%, solar 10.63%, fuel oil 6.81%, wind 4.98%, hydro 4.53% and biomass 0.98%.
