This was pointed out here as the reason you do NOT register with the US Embassy in SD ever...........

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has suspended payments to some Americans living abroad. This is because they did not submit a required form called the Foreign Enforcement Questionnaire. The form is needed each year to confirm eligibility for payments outside the U.S.

I'm not American, but commenting as my country in Scandinavia recently put a similar law into effect. Part of the pensions guaranteed by the state are no longer paid for people who for example reside in Spain, due to govt cost cutting. So I'm echoing here what cavok said above, I would never have my home country deposit any benefits or other payments from the state to any other bank than the one in my home city. For them, I only live there.

yup, it is quite simple to transfer it to the DR when needed and there have been many discussions on the most efficient or most speedy or a combination of both ways. It might be a complicated for private pensions (due to tax involved) but for state pensions, easiest is to transfer when needed. It is also safer from being stolen or lost in the DR

It is always better to give as little information to the government except when it is beneficial to yourself. You never know what policy change is going to come

Is the questionnaire so complicated that people can't submit it every year?
From what I understand you need to send the completed form to a ¨P.O. Box¨ in the U.S.

Therefore you can not use FedEx, UPS, etc. to return it.

That leaves you with using the D.R. Postal system to (1) receive it and (2) to send it back. :( lol lol lol lol

The D.R. Postal system does not deliver mail to most D.R. homes, few exceptions.

I agree with you 100%. let's face the banks are unreliable and then will take your money than you have to go prove it that it's yours for this reason I only transfer down here what I need to live off of credit cards that have mailing addresses in the United States

Us Canadians, at least us Vets have several forms that we have to send in annually. Are you still missing your leg type questions. Fortunately, they allow you to do it online at Veteran affairs Canada...etc. I have all my pension money go into my Canadian bank acct. They allow free transfers to my DR Bank, which charges me 7 dollars for each transfer. All my income tax paperwork I send online to H&R Block, and they process my Tax return. I do receive my T4 income tax receipts in the DR post office, but I can get them online as well. Anything like new CC my Canadian bank sends them to my brother. So, the headline should be SS payment suspended for those that didn't follow the rules.

No, but it is a challenge you don't really need to get it where it has to go in the US without losing it and your SS and Medicare with it.........No one needs this..........

Sky, I'm have a similar situation; I never received my form in the mail here in Santiago. I went to the post office and was told that there are many like me waiting for the form. They took my name and number and said they would call!?!?!?!?!? right! Spent three hours on hold with the SSA in the U.S. and finally the person on the other end had no idea what the form was......(call center????) Anyway I found it on line, SSA - 7162, but I'm not sure if it's the right version. Can you please tell me if yours is the 2023 or 2024 version. Thank you.

Respectfully, Marcos

Surely if the fact is that you are actually living abroad and you receive some payments in the US that you are not supposed to receive if you live abroad, at some point they will catch up with you and you will be deep in the donkey-do. There isn't a lot that the US government doesn't know about your whereabouts.

Why would anyone possibly want to set themselves up for all the aggravation and things that could go wrong with sending your S.S. payment here?
It is called "US indoctrination". They teach it in grimmer school.............
