The township of Friusa was born with the construction of the first resorts in the Punta Cana area. The constructions attracted the flow of thousands of undocumented workers from Haiti who found low cost housing in this central area that would grow and now has been described as one of the most dense congregations of Haitians anywhere.

In recent years, the peaceful worker community has evolved to have a reputation as a no-man’s land, with reports that drug dealership and criminals have set up their networks and homes there and that the area is controlled by Haitian leadership, in the Haitian-style.

Now the Antigua Orden Dominicana is organizing a peaceful walk through the community on 30 March 2025 to enforce that this area cannot be off limits for Dominicans. The walk was notified to the Ministry of Interior and Police. The Antigua Orden Dominicana protests what...

The Antigua Orden Dominicana is actually quite civil. Just look at all their previous marches, not only they have been calm but they even pick up the garbage they produce and whatever is found in the route they march.

They are getting police protection and maybe military too because supposedly, some of the Haitians have threatened the leader of Antigua Orden Dominicana if he goes through with the protest.

The thing is this. Many other groups have decided to join the march of Antigua Orden Dominicana to protest illegal immigration from Haiti. There is a YouTube short where Santiago Matías (aka Alofoke) says “anyone with a gun, take it to the march; anyone with machine guns, take it to the march; if a Haitian fires first, fire back.” Then add that Santiago Matías has received threats from some Haitians too after that. Um, threatening Alofoke isn’t a very smart thing to do. While Antigua Orden Dominicana deals mostly with normal Dominicans, Alofoke has quite a following and respects in the DR underworld including murderers and such. Threatening him as akin to threatening them. Not a good idea.

We’ll see what happens on Sunday.

The protest will take place in Hoyo de Friusa no matter what and many Dominicans are being taken there from the capital in buses completely free. The recent events in Hoyo de Friusa involving some Haitian doing crimes to Dominicans is the main motive that caught their attention to there. Add to that the high concentration of Haitians and the recent disturbance by Haitians in Úvero Alto.

What many are saying is that Hoyo de Friusa may be dominated by Haitians, but that is still the DR as a response that Dominicans shouldn’t go to Haitian dominated neighborhoods.

I would be one of those 12! When I was in high school Latin was a required course.
Ditto for the Catholic school I attended. It would appear cheap Haitian labour is not cheap. It has social costs. The resort developers called the tune but now the piper has to be paid. Hopefully this will be a peaceful March. Punta Cana doesn’t need more negative publicity after the recent drowning incident at RIU Republica.

It should also be noted that March 30 is also the anniversary of one of the independence battles, that one fought in Santiago against one of the Haitian invasions.

The Antigua Orden Dominicana has held a few marches here in Santiago over the last 10 years. I'd say the largest one might have had around 300 people in attendance. Never been a problem.

The Dominican government is already sending the military to Hoyo de Friusa. Obviously, they are there for security purposes of the Antigua Orden Dominicana protest this coming Sunday. That the military is beginning to have a presence there so soon is perhaps to send a message to those Haitians inclined towards violence that it will not be tolerated.

I have been going to Friusa for almost 15 years...4 to 5 days a week. Always in the daytime. I have yet to have an issue. No doubt, there are some bad hombres, but that can be said of many locations in the country and not specifically Haitian. Sad to think of how ugly this might get due to some extremists. When I hear that they are providing free buses from Santo Domingo, this is not a "local" gathering.
