I had to look up what German bread actually is. Now that I've done it, I'd love to try some.
Not toast, not white, if with seeds, much better. The bread I most like is fresh rye bread that is almost black. Before we traveled, my wife used to eat sometimes pan de agua, I do still eat that sometimes, our kids as well, but my wife's a bit more sensitive, she does not touch it anymore.

I would say not necessarily only German bread, as you should see the selection in any supermarket in my home country. You have 2-3 full aisles toast (white and non-white, so whole bread), darker bread with good fiber, bread with seeds, fresh bread straight from the oven packed in paper bags...

Put a slice of good ham and cheese of your choice on top and accompany that with a fresh cup of coffee...

I'm drooling now...

Try calling the German Culture Center on Calle Isabel la Católica in Colonial Zone. They used to have a German market once a month, not sure if they still have it or not anymore. But if there's any place in Santo Domingo they should know.
I didn't know they had one. In Spanish, it's called Centro Domínico-Alemán. Yes, I used a translator. 😢

Here is the link on google maps.

I can see why you would be drooling. I was raised on Wonder Bread and learned to despise it. Rye, pumpernickel, and sourdough have become my favs.

This is the only bread I eat in DR and it's actually German. Available in Supermercados Nacional.

It took me a long time to get used to bread here. I usually buy Sirena Whole Wheat with flax seeds. It's good. I did buy some bread a few years ago at the German Market but it had a strong yeast taste. It was ok but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

But I made and sold bread in USA to some local grocery stores . It was called Good Bread. 100 percent organic fresh stone ground flour, usually still warm from the grinding process. Whole wheat, rye, oatmeal sunflower seed, honey raisin cinnamon and onion and plain bagles. Oh and granola. So it was difficult eating store bought again.

Nacional sells a lot of different types of fresh bread they bake, including rye bread (pan de centeno). If it's still not that good for you, maybe you should move to Germany?
If you call this garbage from supermercado nacional good bread than maybe you should move to germany to learn about what you are talking about.

Rybread in English I think. It is something I miss after a while in the DR.
Same here. Our smaller kid has a thing towards black rye bread as well, he eats it without any toppings, which is a bit odd, but hey, he likes it like that... With milk... I dislike those breads packaged in tight plastic with longer shelf life, it's not really the same. The looser the packaging, the shorter the shelf life, that's what I call fresh bread. You don't need to buy much at a time, as it will go bad quickly, then you go back to the store and get a new loaf...

Was I talking to you? it looks like some people can't read comprehensively after reaching a certain age.

I am from Europe, so I know what I am talking about. That's why I said, if what they have in Supermercado Nacional is not good for him, maybe he should move to Germany. Because the fresh bread from Germany can't be delivered to Santo Domingo overnight, and nobody will bake it here the same way they do it in Germany.

And regarding the so-called German bread baked in DR, I remember when a fancy SuperFresh supermarket in Santo Domingo just opened, they invited some German guy who was selling his bread there right at the entrance, I bought some and honestly it was a total crap comparing to what Nacional bakes.
