Amazon Firestick Questions

I’ve seen several threads mentioning the Amazon Firestick, so hopefully those out there with knowledge and experience can provide some info. I’m considering purchasing one and canceling my Claro cable. I’ve read reviews on Amazon and most are good but of course some are bad...issues with not being able to change the sleep timer (apparently it’s set for about 5 minutes, so pausing causes difficulties), and memory concerns being the main ones. I plan to use it to watch free TV, no plan to add paid services. My questions:

#1, is the difference between 8 GB and 16 GB worth buying the more expensive?

#2, are there enough free channels to make this worthwhile? Being here in the DR, I’m guessing less channels will be available than in the US, if the Firestick considers location for channel availability. I prefer not to have to mess with a VPN.

#3, are there free live sports such as the NFL available here? I did see the NFL Channel was supposedly free, but they don’t show entire games for the most part, and again, not sure if being here in the DR affects that.

Any other helpful advice is also appreciated.

I think Greg is about to bring some happiness into your life, especially if you sign up with him. It's only a few bucks a month for more content than you can imagine.

Fire stick has access to Tubi and Pluto and other free streaming apps. I’m googling a lot about all that bc I’m going that way. Local cable sucks.
#1. I don’t know
#2. Yes ! See my post above
#3. I’m not sure
I will likely PM GregVolt in future, after purchase, for an appointment

#2 note: you MAY need a VPN. I bought one due to Skype shut down, $4/month
We have 4 or 5 Firesticks at different locations in Sosua area. Most are connecting using Delancer internet. They are all using TIVIMATE from Greg. Interestingly - some need VPN and others don't. And they are all within 3 or 4 miles from each other.
The ones that need VPN - as per Greg's recommendation - we use Proton. It's FREE.

Thank you all for the input :) As I suspected, a Firestick is limited here without a VPN (except for a few lucky ones Astucia has). So, more to consider. Two questions for @gregvolt - how much a month for your IPTV service, and is it used by using the Firestick remote control (I assume so but when you assume...)

One other thing - if you lose your Firestick remote or it stops working - you can download the free app to your Iphone or android phone. Easy to install and works great. Just be sure it is the official app.

" To control your Fire TV device with your mobile device, download the official "Fire TV" app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network, and then use the app's on-screen navigation and keyboard for control. "

FYI: Both Prime and Netflix and the other video providers have content available in the US that you cannot access in the DR on your Firestick.

Having the free proton VPN app gives you access to that content.

for those who wants access to local channels also can download the app WindTVO create an account and will give you access to all Dominican Channels and also some USA free TV Channels too. I Cancelled my cable service and keep only internet with my Amazon firestick. Actually im thinking to change it for one of the resent versions I have a new TV.

Get your Fire TV and a VPN for 8$ a month (NORDVPN) and you are good to go.

is anybody having problems with some shows continually having the spinning ball thing with the service? Not all shows just some episodes.

Honestly, I think PROTON is better, and it's free. It doesn't slow down my connection 1 iota.

Not only that, it loads automatically (I'm guessing NORD does too) and it's super easy to connect/disconnect.

JD, do you know how to set a default location at startup? I go to either Venezuela or Puerto Rico. I can and do change it but sometimes I forget. I would love to set a default American location.

When I see the "quick connect" page, underneath there is a list of countries. I scrolled down to the US and clicked on it.

I wonder if these apps and VPN can be directly installed on a modern smart TV, or are they not available in their app stores?
The few needs I have now are already in my TV and the firestick became obsolete, but maybe I want more services in the future.
