Last La Cadena supermarket shuts down

La Cadena supermarket chain announced the shutdown of its last store on Av. Abraham Lincoln on 29 March 2025. The chain locations have been reopening branded as El Nacional, Carrefour or Bravo supermarkets. Juan Ramos told Diario Libre there is not yet a buyer for the Av. Abraham Lincoln store that is on a prime location in the capital city. He said the company continues to sell around 50 leading branded products in supermarkets nationwide.

Established in the late 1990s, Supermercados La Cadena grew to become a prominent brand in the Dominican retail sector. In an official statement, the company expressed its gratitude to its customers, employees, and suppliers for their support over the past two decades.

While living in Santo Domingo Este I would shop there sometimes. They sold many of the same items as La Sirena but with much lower prices.
