Mines and Energy Minister Joel Santos told reporters that wind-produced energy reached 300 megawatts at certain moments on Friday, 4 April 2025. Taking to his account on X, formerly Twitter, Santos wrote that this energy came at a time of maximum demand and underlined the importance of renewable energy and of wind energy that is becoming the second source of power generation in the country.
He also noted that this benchmark has been reached several times in the last few weeks and that the growth of clean energy is part of the transition towards these sources of power. The first wind farms in the Dominican Republic appeared in 2011 in Juancho in Pedernales province at the Cocos I (EGE Haina), and in Quilvio Cabrera (Punta Cana-Macao Energy Group).
