Agents from the Specialized Corps for Border Security (Cesfront), working with Migration Agency authorities, discovered six dozen undocumented Haitian migrants in a hotel in the border town of Elias Piña. According to reports, the persons were lodged at the Eureka Hotel, where human traffickers prepare them for insertion into Dominican cities.
The Cesfront agents turned the undocumented Haitians over to the authorities at the Migration Agency.
The Dominican Republic has recently been in the news because of its policy of deporting undocumented migrants or those who violate local immigration laws. Given the current situation in Haiti, there is heavy migration pressure at the around 400 km border that separates the two countries.
