I'm shamelessly promoting a book I wrote about a recent kidnapping in Montellano. All proceeds from the sales go towards the recovery costs incurred by the family and legal fees going forward.

The book titled, Kidnapped in the Dominican Republic, can be found on Amazon for the low, low price of $2.99 US.

Chapter 1

Introduction

On Thursday, November 30, 2023 in the town of Montellano on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, Ana walked to her daughter's school as she did everyday before 4pm to meet her and walk her home. It was good exercise and a chance to get out of the house, but mainly it was one of the many things Ana did which kept this single mom's relationship with her kids so strong and healthy. Her devotion to her kids was why her son and daughter were both happy, doing well in school and devoted to their mother.

That day Ana's daughter was not in front of the school chatting with friends waiting for her mom. The girl had been abducted minutes before Ana arrived. This is the true story of a kidnapping, a mother's frantic search and the eventual rescue. There are many heroes in this story and a true psychopath behind it all.

I can't count the number deportees I've known, known of or come in contact with who have staged or assisted in staging their own "kidnapping" over the last decade with sole purpose of extorting money out of their family members abroad. It's dirty world out there for sure, lol, especially during the holidays.

One time a friend was arrested and thrown into the Puerto Plata jail. He contacted me, I went to see him and he gave me all his contact info. I called his mom in the US. She didn't believe me, thought I was running a scam or had kidnapped her son and called the US embassy to report me. Some clueless embassy person called my phone, claimed she had called the Puerto Plata jail and they said they didn't have anyone by that name. Finally, the embassy sent someone to the jail to check it out and sure enough there he was. I never got an apology from the embassy or the mother. But fake kidnapping? Hadn't heard that one.

I've been to jail a few times/ detained overnight by dirty PN. Never accused of a crime, it's nothing personal, strictly business.
Live life like a Dominican long enough and sooner or later you'll start having Dominican experiences.

This happened on November 30 of this year and you wrote, published and are selling the book within less than a month?

I told a close friend who is a retired customs and border agent about the kidnapping. He was fascinated with the story and has a twitter blog or vlog or whatever with a large following. He asked me to write a narrative so he could get all the details right when he told the story on twitter. I wrote the narrative in maybe 6 hours. He complimented me about how well the story was told. I'd not thought about it being a book until then when I began thinking that it was quite a story and I'd like to share it. It's like 15 pages single spaced. It's not a novel. It's a short story but a good one. The Kindle version is 25 pages which includes a map of the DR showing the route the kidnappers took. Preparing a Word document to upload to Kindle takes like an hour. The only thing which bogged me down was preparing the image for the cover as I don't have Photoshop anymore on my laptop. So yeah, 3 days start to finish.

Sorry, but don’t call it a book, call it a short story. To avoid negative comments on Amazon. Or take your time and make it a real book.

I just read the book, and, as the author says, it certainly is a short story rather than a book. I read it in less than forty-five minutes. It's an interesting story, pretty well told, but I would suggest that the author could use the services of a good editor, as there are some irritating aspects. For example, he/she uses digits rather than written numbers throughout (for example 13 instead of thirteen), which is a literary no-no, and the narrative veers between past and present tenses in places. However, reading it is not a waste of a short part of your life so why not give it a go?

Kindle App is free on most phones/ipads
The app is free, but the story will still cost $2.99 US unless you also sign up for a free Kindle Unlimited trial membership. You can also download Kindle for PC from the Amazon website, if you wish.

Really I learned that numbers ZERO- NINE are written, and number from 10 up are in numerals.
