Poor vs Rich
Another out of place nice house, just two doors up from our building lot on the edge of town.
No biggie can show you those all over the country.
Homes like this were the just about standard in the campo before cinder block came along. *Our casita is a few doors down. *Impossible to make it mosquito proof and the tin makes it brutal hot. *They take good care of it and even hire a gardener.
Times are changing. *Fifty years ago the average family had six kids, now it's down to under three, *later first births and women are part of the economy. *Hard to move a family up the rungs when they have to double the wealth of the country every 20 years simply to maintain the per capita wealth they have. *Change takes time. *
Oh, I'd argue this point. I'm watching some spoiled rich brats from Haiti deal with poverty. It's comical. They honestly have no clue thinking that people will shower them with everything they need and want.
Or, did you mean it's easy to lose your wealth and end up poor. That is indeed easy.
Yep lots of poor folks in the Dominican Republic have had better days and had a nice level of life at least temporarily at some point in their life. People have no concept of financial planning, fiscal conservatism or long term perspective that would allow for a sustainable middle class existence. I have seen the chancleta-yeepeta and back class a million times over. They deserve all misery and suffering that comes their way.
At least you're not bitter about it... *Why stay here if you have such distain for the people? * The vast majority of Dominicans are doing far better than their parents did at the same age. *Seems to me you're projecting your own misery onto people who for the most part happier than you'll ever be. *
